Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect promoted by Microsoft on Terminal Services Home Page
It makes me proud that Microsoft is promoting Ericom’s PowerTerm WebConnect for Windows Server 2008 on the Terminal Services home page. This is yet another example of our close ties and cooperation with Microsoft, and a significant endorsement of our product and technology. For more information about PowerTerm WebConnect for Windows Server 2008 see this joint Microsoft / Ericom TechNet webcast and this previous blog post.
Also, Brian Madden posted an analysis of the impact of the release of Windows Server 2008 on third-party add-ons such as Ericom and Citrix. I wholeheartedly agree with his conclusion that out-of-the-box Windows Server 2008 is not an adequate alternative for either of these solutions. On reading Brian’s analysis I found the following statement to be very perceptive:
Microsoft has specified that pure Terminal Services can be used for “low complexity” environments, and that third-party add-on tools should be used for higher-complexity environments. I typically think of “low complexity” cenarios as environments that only have part-time TS admins. And so in this case, I would think these admins need a server-based computing product that is as easy as possible to use, and pure Terminal Server on Windows 2008 sure isn’t that
In other words, while Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services may provide sufficient functionality to satisfy low-complexity environments, it can also impose too much management overhead for these very same scenarios.
This is exactly the conundrum we set out to remedy with our free offering of PowerTerm WebConnect for Windows Server 2008. By augmenting Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services with features such as centralized administration and enhanced Active Directory integration, PowerTerm WebConnect transforms it into a great solution for low-complexity environments, and a good solution for more complex environments as well.
And if your environment requires the full gamut of features provided by a robust Presentation Virtualization solution, the commercial versions of PowerTerm WebConnect are the first and only such products certified by Microsoft for Windows Server 2008.
